During the <strong>Great Depression<\/strong>, she lived in a farmhouse without electricity or<\/em> <em>running water. As our country entered <strong>World War II<\/strong>, she graduated as the <strong>valedictorian<\/strong> of<\/em> <em>her high school class. <strong>Attending college on scholarship<\/strong>, she graduated with a Bachelor\u2019s<\/em> <em>degree and teaching certificate and taught for many years in junior high and high schools<\/em> <em>in the Denver area.
